SeENS International Neurosurgery Course (Walking the Silk Road), Term I, Course I (Neuro-oncology) took place in Istanbul, Turkey

The 1st SeENS International Neurosurgery Course a joint venture with the WFNS Neurosurgical Anatomy Committee took place from Aug 18 to Aug 20, 2017 at Koç University, and Istanbul Congress Center, Turkey.

The goal of SeENS is to gather young neurosurgeons from all around the world and to provide standard training for them. As mentioned in opening remarks, one of the most important aim of this course is to connect east and west, north and south, to share science, peace, love and friendship and moreover, to act as a bridge across civilizations on a scientific platform.

SeENS offered scholarships to neurosurgery residents from each country. There were more than 100 scholarship applications from all around the world. It gives us a great honor to announce that SeENS awarded 54 scholarships to neurosurgery residents and all accommodation, registration and social event fees of the residents gladly covered by SeENS. The honorary speakers for SeENS 2017 were Prof. Dr. Tarik Tihan and Prof. Dr. Kim Burchiel, both from US. Koç University Research Center for Translational Medicine (KUTTAM), KU School of Medicine and the Turkish Neuro-oncology Foundation also endorsed the course. The Course was a resounding success, attracting well over 110 attendees from 43 countries. The Course provided an opportunity to interact professionally and socially. Our goal next year is to have 150 participants from at least 75 countries and to grant scholarships to at least 50 participants.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the President of SeENS, Dr. Kresimir Rotim and Chair of the WFNS Neurosurgical Anatomy Committee, Dr. Vladimir Benes, for supporting SeENS Course with their participation. We wish to acknowledge our gratitude to all participants of SeENS 2017, all speakers and members of organization committee.
