Prof. Dr. İsmail Lazoğlu received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 1989, and earned his MS and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992 and 1997. He worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and as a postdoctoral fellow in the University of British Columbia between 1997 and 2000. He has been working as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Koc University since 2000. He is the founder and director of the Manufacturing and Automation Research Center at Koc University. His research interests are in the fields of Advanced Manufacturing, Mechatronics/Automation/Robotics and Medical Systems/Artificial Organs/Implants/Biomechanics. His current medical research interests are in the areas of biomechanics, artificial heart pumps, cardiovascular system modeling, modeling of human spine system, 3D printing of tissues, bionic arms and legs, development of novel spine and orthopedic implants. He is a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP – College International pour la Recherche en Productique), member of the European Society for Artificial Organs, Co-founder and Administrative Board Member of the Association of Artificial Organs and Support Systems (TUYOD) in Turkey.
