Hakan S. Orer received an MD degree in 1986 from Hacettepe University Medical School (Ankara, Turkey). In 1992, he completed his PhD studies in pharmacology at Hacettepe University and Pitié-Salpêtrière School of Medicine (Paris, France), as a recipient of French Government scholarship. He spent two years as a post-doctoral research fellow at Michigan State University (E. Lansing, Michigan) and joined the Department of Pharmacology at Hacettepe University Medical School in 1995. In 2002-03 he worked as a visiting associate professor at Michigan State University. From 2003 to 2012 he served as the director (dean) of the graduate studies in allied health sciences at Hacettepe University. He joined Koç University School of Medicine in 2013. He is currently the chairman of Koç University Ethics Committees (IRB), a member of the National Ethics Committee for Animal Experiments (Ministry of Forestry and Water Works) and the UNESCO National Commission Expert Committee for Bioethics. His main research interests are the brainstem control of the blood pressure and preclinical drug development. Hakan S. Orer is a recipient of Turkish Scientific and Technique Research Council (TUBITAK) Junior Scientist Award (1998). Other fields of interest include rational pharmacotherapy education, bioethics, bioinformatics and transgenic mice models. Since 2017 Dr. Orer serves as a member of TUBITAK Health Sciences Research Group Advisory Board. He is a member of Science Academy (Turkey), Turkish Pharmacological Society and American Physiological Society.
