Prof. Dr. Ayşe Altıntaş became a neurology specialist (Ege University) in 1992, "associate professor" in 1997, and "professor" in 2003 (Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty). Between 1991-1992, she studied neuroimmunology under the mentor of Prof. Moses Rodriguez at the Mayo Clinic and worked on the experimental model of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). With this work, she was awarded the Eczacıbaşı Medical Incentive Award.
Dr. Arzu Baygül is a lecturer at Koç University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biostatistics. After graduating from Statistics at Yıldız Technical University, he completed his master's and doctorate degrees in the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty.
Nazlı Başak, born Furgaç, graduated from The German Highschool in Istanbul and was awarded a DAAD scholarship to study in Germany. Nazlı earned her BS degree from the University of Göttingen, Germany, and completed her MSc and PhD theses in molecular biology and genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine in Göttingen under the scientific guidance of Prof. Friedrich Cramer.
Dr.Afsun Sahin received his medical degree from Ankara University Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Hacettepe University Medical School and a postdoctoral fellowship program at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, focusing on Corneal and External Diseases and Surgery.
Dr. Atay Vural earned his MD and Ph.D. from Hacettepe University after completing the MD-PhD combined program. He used intravital and digital imaging techniques to study brain microcirculation in mice for his Ph.D. thesis. During his neurology residency at the same university hospital, he participated in research projects on clinical neurology and neuroimaging.
Dr. Attila Gürsoy is a professor of computer science in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He received his PhD degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Computer Science in 1994. He was a postdoctoral research associate at the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group at Beckman Institute UIUC.
Dr. Cansın Saçkesen, is a professor of Pediatric Allergy in School of Medicine. She has experiences about PBMC culture, cytokine analysis, dendritic cell, T cell, B cell stimulation and interaction, immunoglobulin synthesis and measurement, DNA isolation, PCR, protein electrophoresis and IgE binding to peptides.
Dr. Ceyda Acilan Ayhan graduated with honors from Bogaziçi University from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2001. She earned her doctoral degree in 2006 at the University of Pittsburgh in the department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology.
Dr. Elif Nur Firat-Karalar studied molecular biology and genetics at Bilkent University, Turkey. She then moved to US for her PhD work at the University of California, Berkeley and her postdoctoral studies at Stanford University.
Emel Sokullu is a Physics Engineer graduated from Istanbul Technical University, M.Sc. degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Izmir Institute of Technology and Phd. degree on Bioengineering at Ege University. She did her post doc study in Harvard Medical School & M.I.T. Health Sciences and Technology Programme on brain tissue engineering.
Dr. Emek Kocatürk Göncü received her medical degree from Hacettepe University and completed a Dermatology Residency Program at Göztepe Training and Research Hospital. She has been focusing on the allergic disorders of the skin and she worked in Charite University Dermatoallergy Department with Professor Marcus Maurer on chronic urticaria.
Dr Gozuacik obtained his MD degree from Hacettepe School of Medicine. He received his MS degree of Biochemistry from Ecole Polytechnique and Paris-Sud University and his PhD degree of Cancer Cell Biology from Pasteur Institute and Necker Children's Hospital Research Center in Paris.
Dr. Ece Öztürk received her BSc in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Koç University in 2009. She then completed her MSc in (2011) and PhD (2017) in Biomedical Engineering at ETH Zurich. In her graduate studies, she worked on therapeutic DNA delivery via polymeric nanoparticles for treatment of diabetic ulcers.
B. Erdem Alaca received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 1997, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Koç University, where he manages Mechanical Characterization and Microfabrication facilities.
Dr. Gülnihal Özcan received her MD degree from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in 2007. She completed her residency in Pharmacology at Ankara University School of Medicine in 2011. She conducted her post-doctoral studies at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Department of Experimental Therapeutics. Her major research interests are chemoresistance in cancer, systems pharmacology and pharmacovigilance.
Gözde Korkmaz obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics department from Istanbul Technical University. She received her PhD degree from Sabancı University Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering in 2012. She conducted her post-doctoral studies at Reuven Agami's laboratory at the Netherlands Cancer Institute.
Hakan S. Orer received an MD degree in 1986 from Hacettepe University Medical School (Ankara, Turkey). In 1992, he completed his PhD studies in pharmacology at Hacettepe University and Pitié-Salpêtrière School of Medicine (Paris, France), as a recipient of French Government scholarship. He spent two years as a post-doctoral research fellow at Michigan State University (E. Lansing, Michigan).
Hülya Kayserili, MD. PhD., is a professor of medical genetics and chief of Medical Genetics Department & Diagnostic Center for Genetic Diseases at Koc University School of Medicine (KUSoM), İstanbul, Turkey.
Hakan Ürey is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Koç University, Istanbul. He received the BS degree from Middle East Technical University, Ankara and MS and Ph.D. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta all in Electrical Engineering. He worked for five years at Microvision Inc., USA and joined the Faculty of Engineering at Koç University in 2001.
Dr. Hasan Bayram received his MD degree from Erciyes University, and completed his Pulmonology Residency at Dicle University School of Medicine, Turkey. He performed his PhD in the field of asthma and air pollution at Queen Mary Westfield College, University of London, UK, and worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at National Heart and Lung Institute.
Dr. Hamzah Syed, is an Assistant Professor in Statistical Genetics and Bioinformatics at Koç University. He completed his PhD at the University of Liverpool in Biostatistics, with a focus on pharmacogenetics.
Prof. Dr. İsmail Lazoğlu received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 1989, and earned his MS and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992 and 1997. He worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and as a postdoctoral fellow in the University of British Columbia between 1997 and 2000.
Prof. Dr. Kemal Baysal obtained his MD degree at İstanbul University, İstanbul Medical Faculty in 1985. He received his PhD degree from Ohio State University in biochemistry and continued his post-doctoral studies in different universities in USA. Currently, he is a professor of biochemistry at Koç University, School of Medicine. His area of research is vascular biology, cardiovascular diseases, angiogenesis and its role in tissue engineering.
Mehmet Cengiz Onbaşlı received his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Materials Science and Engineering and his Bachler’s degree from Bilkent University Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. He worked as a research scientist at Corning Incorporated for a year and joined Koç University Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department as an assistant professor.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kaya received his Ph.D. degree in Medical Physiology at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University in 1989. He promoted to Assoc. Prof. in 1991 and earned his professor title in 1998. Prof. Kaya has been working on the morphology, physiology, and pathology of brain microvessels in experimental animal models since 1985.
Dr. Metin Sitti received the BSc and MSc degrees in electrical and electronics engineering from Bogazici University in Turkey, and the PhD degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tokyo in Japan. He was a research scientist at University of California at Berkeley during 1999-2002 and a professor at Carnegie Mellon University during 2002-2016 in USA. Currently, he is a director at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Germany.
Dr. Zeybel received his medical degree from Hacettepe University. Following the completion of internal medicine residency, he has been trained as gastroenterologist and in the last year of his training he started to work on epigenetic regulation of hepatic stellate cells and liver fibrosis at Newcastle University.
Dr. Nathan Lack obtained his DPhil (PhD) in Pharmacology from the University of Oxford in 2009 and then did a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Vancouver Prostate Centre with Dr. Emma Guns and Professor Paul Rennie. Nathan became an Assistant Professor at Koç University in the School of Medicine in 2011.
Dr. Ulusu is a professor of Biochemistry in School of Medicine. She is interested in the biochemical and molecular basis of disease in diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, metabolic syndrome, energy metabolism and oxidative stress.
Dr. Nurhan Özlü received her BS degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2001 from the Bilkent University. She did her PhD at Max Planck Institute for Cell Biology and Genetics, Dresden Germany in 2005. Following her PhD, Dr. Ozlu worked as a Post Doctoral Researcher at the Harvard Medical School, Systems Biology Department and in Childrens Hospital BostonProteomics Laboratory.
Dr Nathalie Escande-Beillard is an Assistant Professor with Koç University, School of Medicine (KUSoM), İstanbul, Turkey. After receiving her PhD in Neuroscience at University de la Mediterranée in Marseille, France, she joined the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology in University of California (UCLA), Los Angeles where she focused on understanding molecular convergences between the nervous and the immune system.
Dr. Adsay received his Pathology training in New York and completed a two-year fellowship in Oncologic Pathology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He joined the faculty at Wayne State University as Assistant Professor in 1997 and advanced through the ranks to full Professor in 2007.
Murat Kuşcu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Koç University, Turkey. He obtained the BSc degree from Middle East Technical University, Turkey, and the MSc degree from Koç University, both in electrical and electronics engineering.
Dr. Murat Hasanreisoglu received his medical degree from Ankara University, School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Ankara University, School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. He worked as ophthalmology resident at Rabin Medical Center (Israel) between the years of 2003-2009.
Dr. Ozgur B. Akan received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, in 2004. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Koç University, and the Director of Next-generation and Wireless Communications Laboratory (NWCL).
Dr. Özgür Öktem earned his MD degree from Erciyes University and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Marmara University in Istanbul. Later he pursued his academic career in the USA where he completed postdoctoral fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinolog and Infertility at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Molecular Biology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center New York.
Currently, Ozlem Keskin is a professor in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department at Koc University, Istanbul. Before, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute-National Institutes of Health, U.S.A., during 1999− 2001.
Dr. Tuncbag is an associate professor at Koç University jointly in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), and her master and doctorate degrees from Koç University Computational Sciences and Engineering department.
Dr. Özlem Yalçın received her PhD from the Department of Physiology, Akdeniz University. She worked as a post-doctoral fellowship at University of California San Diego with Prof. Paul Johnson, Prof. Pedro Cabrales and she is currently an Assistant Professor in the Koç University School of Medicine, Department of Physiology.
Prof. Dr. Safiye Çavdar graduated from TED Ankara College high school, continued her higher education at Hacettepe University Science Faculty, and received her master degree from Hacettepe Medical Faculty, and Doctorate degree from Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty. She has conducted researches at Queens Medical Center Nottingham UK.
Assoc. Prof. Seda Kızılel received her B.S. and MSc. degrees from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Bogazici University, İstanbul. She completed her PhD. at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Illinois Institute of Technology in 2004 and worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago. Dr. Kızılel joined as a faculty of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Koç University, İstanbul in 2008.
Dr. Karahüseyinoğlu graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine and later specialized as a cell biologist, histologist and clinical embryologist at Ankara University Department of Histology & Embryology. Two main topics of her interest include reproductive biology-mainly focused on gametes and embryo, and human mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cord.
Dr Seçil Vural earned her MD degree from Hacettepe University and completed the Dermatology Residency Program at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. She did her postdoctoral fellowship in dermatologic research with Prof. Jörg Prinz and Dr Akiko Arakawa in the Psoriasis Research Laboratory of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Dr Vural’s research interests are inflammatory skin diseases and skin immunity
Dr. Serkan Kır received his PhD degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 2011. He completed a Post-doctoral fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School with Prof. Bruce Spiegelman and joined Koç University in 2017 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.
Dr. Savas Tasoglu received his Ph.D. in 2011 from UC Berkeley, with a research focus on transport phenomena and pharmacokinetics of anti-HIV microbicide drug delivery. Dr. Tasoglu held a postdoctoral appointment at Harvard Medical School and Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology between 2011 and 2014.
Dr. Tamer Önder received his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Cornell University. He then carried out PhD thesis work on cancer metastasis and cancer stem cells under the supervision of Prof. Robert Weinberg at the Whitehead Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Dr. Tuğba Bağcı Önder graduated from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Bilkent University in 2002. She then earned her Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience at Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University in 2008. During her doctoral studies, she studied the role of a novel receptor-ligand pair (Neuropilin-1/Sema3A) in the migratory behavior of aggressive brain tumor cells.
Dr. Hale Yapıcı Eser earned her MD degree from Hacettepe University and completed her Psychiatry Residency at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. In addition, she gained Neuroscience PHD degree through the MD-PHD program at Hacettepe University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Turgay Dalkara and Assoc. Prof. Emine Eren Koçak.
Dr. Yıldız Tütüncü graduated from Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Department of Biomedical Sciences. She earned her M.S. and Ph.D. degree in the field of Immunology at Istanbul University. Dr. Tütüncü received Associate Professor degree in the field of Basic Immunology.
Dr. Alper Kiraz is a professor of Physics and Electrical-Electronics Engineering at Koç University. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical-Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University in 1998, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2000 and 2002, respectively.
Dr. Yüksel Peker received his MD degree from Istanbul University School of Medicine in 1985. He moved to Sweden in 1987 and completed his internship in Internal Medicine followed by Pulmonary Medicine at the Skaraborg Education and Research Hospital, and University of Gothenburg Sahlgrenska Hospital, respectively.
